The Benefits of a Dog-Friendly Office

Since introducing our first dog-friendly office building in downtown Calgary a few years ago, we've seen a growing demand for pet-friendly workplaces, which has continued to intensify in the post-pandemic office environment. Our dog-friendly buildings have demonstrated the benefits of this policy for both our tenants and the building experience as a whole. In this article, we'll share insights from managing these spaces and explain why welcoming dogs is beneficial for everyone.

1. Fosters Positive Company Culture

Allowing dogs in the workplace can significantly impact a company's culture and the relationships between employees by fostering better communication skills and trust. This leads to a more welcoming and relaxed environment and creates a sense of camaraderie among staff members and other tenants in the building. Employees who feel comfortable and happy communicate better and build stronger relationships, contributing to positive company culture and a better overall building experience.

2. Increases Engagement Having dogs in the office can increase engagement and collaboration in multiple ways. Dogs can provide a shared interest and experience among employees and other tenants, breaking down barriers, creating a more cohesive team dynamic, and leading to new connections in the building. Additionally, dogs can act as a social catalyst, facilitating interactions and conversations between employees and tenants who might not otherwise interact. Their presence fosters a sense of community and connection, leading to increased collaboration and idea-sharing.

3. Boosts Creativity & Reduces Stress

Dogs tend to create a relaxed and enjoyable work environment, stimulating creativity and inspiring new ideas. They serve as a source of entertainment, providing a much-needed break from day-to-day tasks. Taking a break to pet or play with a dog can help employees recharge, refocus, and reduce stress. This type of work environment leads to increased productivity, engagement, and overall happiness in the workplace.

Having dogs in the workplace provides a range of benefits, including increased productivity, reduced stress levels, and a more supportive work environment. By embracing a dog-friendly culture, businesses can create a positive and enjoyable workplace for their employees, ultimately leading to increased job satisfaction and employee retention. With these benefits in mind, we predict that more workplaces will embrace dog-friendly offices.
